ACCESSIBILITY

An accessible website for everyone.

Closer 2 Care wants every person to be able to understand the campaign and participate in advocacy, regardless of how they access the web.

Our accessibility commitment

We aim to make this website conform to WCAG 2.2 Level AA as far as reasonably practicable. Accessibility is particularly important for the Take Action journey, which should allow people to identify their representatives, prepare a message and take action without unnecessary barriers.

What we have designed for

  • Keyboard navigation throughout the website and advocacy workflow.
  • Visible focus indicators for interactive controls.
  • Semantic headings, landmarks, labels and form controls.
  • Text alternatives for meaningful images and appropriate empty alt text for decorative imagery.
  • Readable typography and sufficient colour contrast.
  • Information that is not communicated by colour alone.
  • Clear instructions, validation and error messages in forms.
  • Touch-friendly controls for mobile users.
  • Responsive layouts across mobile, tablet and desktop devices.
  • Support for prefers-reduced-motion so animation can be minimised.
  • Plain, direct language for the advocacy process wherever possible.

Advocacy accessibility

The advocacy tool is intended to work without a mouse and to be usable with assistive technologies. Each step should provide a clear heading, instructions and feedback so supporters can understand where they are in the process.

Where postcode or representative lookup fails, the production experience should provide an accessible alternative rather than leaving a person unable to continue. For example, it should provide a clearly labelled link to the official electorate or Parliament contact resources.

Images and stories

Family and patient stories are an important part of the campaign. Images should have meaningful alternative text when they communicate information. Decorative images should not add unnecessary noise for screen-reader users.

Stories involving children and families should also be published only with appropriate consent and safeguarding considerations. Accessibility and privacy should be considered together when publishing personal stories.

Third-party services

Some functions may rely on third-party services, such as official electorate information, email services, social media or other campaign platforms. Closer 2 Care should assess these services for accessibility before they become essential to an advocacy journey and should provide an alternative where a third-party service creates a significant barrier.

Feedback and accessibility issues

If you experience a barrier when using this website, we want to know. Please provide the page you were using, what you were trying to do, the technology or assistive technology you were using if relevant, and a description of the problem.

Ongoing improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility. We will continue to review the website, advocacy workflow and third-party integrations and make improvements where issues are identified.
